Question about Rutgers-NB Organic Chemistry Lecture + Lab Sequence

Is it normal at Rutgers-New Brunswick for Pre-Med/Science Majors to take the Organic Chemistry Lecture and Lab separately?

I'm a transfer student, so the Organic Chem Lab was full, and this is one of the courses where Special Permission Numbers are not given due to safety hazards of having to many students, etc. I asked about this situation to the Biological Science adviser on STAR Day and he says it's common for students to take the Organic Chem Lab during the summer, or following semester/year after taking the Organic Chem lecture due to the limited class space.

I'm curious to know how this works out in practice. Is there any material/knowledge from the Organic Chem lecture carries over into the labs? Or is it possible to treat the lecture and lab as separate courses?

Since I'm just worried I might forget material from Organic Chem 1 in the Fall, if I have to take the lab in the following summer or even next academic year.

relatively little crossover so don’t worry

Cool, thanks!
