If I get scholarships from various sources, will that be detrimental to my financial aid package?

Scholarships can reduce financial aid packages if together they exceed COA. But why are you worried about that? Money is money. And scholarships don’t have to be repaid, while FA packages often include loans. So, a scholarship could mean that you’d need to borrow less money.

Check with your intended schools as they each make their own policies. At some point, it may not be worth the effort to win extra scholarships, as several posters last year found out! It can and does reduce your financial aid package though many schools will first reduce self-help (student contribution, loans, work study) components. Some schools seem to resist allowing scholarships to offset the family’s EFC - that really hurts.

^^^

true that most schools will not let scholarships offset EFC, unless they exceed FA.

but typically scholarships can replace loans or work-study, so they’re worth it. Besides, scholarships stay even if your income changes. Scholarships are better than loans or work-study.
