So I was never exactly a social butterfly in high school. I had few friends and really didn’t do much outside of school other than work. I figured that going away to college would allow me to start fresh and make friends/get involved from the start. This is why I choose to attend Penn State main campus, although I lived five minutes away from Penn State Abington. It turns out that this decision might not have been the right one. I am having a very hard time socializing and have hardly made any friends so far. I know I have only been here for a week, but many people on my floor know each other from high school so I already feel like an outcast. I’m not going to get into any more detail about the tough time I’ve been having because I do not want advice on that.
I simply wanted to know if it was possible to switch to a satellite campus from main and begin a 2+2 program there even if I already started my first semester. I figure that since most of the classes at Abington are already full, I might have to wait until next semester to switch, but I was wondering if this was possible or if anyone had any experience with this.
Thanks
Think about the friends you had before now. In high school, did you make friends in a few days? A week? Probably not, at least for close friendships. It takes time for people to get to know each other.
The involvement fair is this Wednesday from 11 am to 4 pm on the HUB lawn. Go check it out, get on some email lists, attend some club meetings. If you like reading, message me for details about the PSU Book Club. I also have experience with the local animal shelter so if you want to know how to look into volunteering there, let me know.
Hang in there. Classes just started; you’ve barely had a chance to meet anyone yet.
I will also make my standard offer of grabbing lunch or dinner sometime if you want. No worries if you’re not interested. I’m a senior in ChemE who had a tough time at first too.
Just wanted to note that the involvement fair has been pushed back to Thursday due to weather concerns.
Everyone wanting to get involved should still go. Get free stuff! Talk to people! Join clubs!
