should this essay be creative or straight forward??? thanks

straight forward. You just have no time for creation.

thanks. any other opinions???

straightforward.
your main essay has to be creative

If you can manage, both is even better. It shows what you can truly do as a writer, and that's what they're interested in. Why do you think there's a word limit?

But if you had to choose, straightforward over creative.

even if it's straightforward, if you really want to have a little creativity, you might use at least one sentence to address the emotions/relationships/stuff that usually would come up in creative writing. it doesn't have to read like a legal document.

The best essays are personal, detailed, honest and revealing about your genuine self.

If a "creative" answer allows you to do that kind of personal writing, then be creative.

If a "straightforward" answer allows you to do that kind of writing, then be straightforward.
