Since the essay is limited to 150 words, is it okay to be pretty blunt about everything? Or should one try to come up with a nice lead and work in your voice/style?

By blunt I don't mean bullet points or anything, but my writing voice is rather flowy and verbose, so unless I cut right to the point I always end up way over the word limit.

We have the same problem. That’s how I speak, as well - so when people tell me to write like I speak, I always come off that way and then people tell me not to sound so pretentious. So of course, now I have to decide how to handle ALL of my essays, not just the activity one.

Also, should the activities essay be about what you DO with the activity (esp. for volunteer groups) and what you’ve accomplished, or should it focus on why you care about that activity and what you’ve learned from it?

On a similar note, is it okay to cut to the chase on MOST supplemental essays (especially “Why ________ College” essays)? Or should there be more of a story line going on that ties in?

the why BLANK college is more standard (what you like, why u wanna go ect.) but have a good intro into it that you can reuse for each why this college essay.
