Question about the "ADDITIONAL INFORMATION" section!!

In some applications, specifically University of Florida in this case, there's a section for "Additional Information" where it asks, "Any other information for the Admission Committee to consider when your application is reviewed?"

If my sophomore year grades were heavily affected by severe generalized anxiety disorder, would this be the place to write that? Or will no excuse have an impact whatsoever...

Yes, you can most certainly use the Additional Information section to explain that situation. MAKE SURE though that your guidance counselor knows about it, so she/he can also include it in your letter of recommendation.

Something you have to take in account is: your anxiety disorder might be an issue to the Admissions Committee. They might wonder…what if this student’s anxiety disorder affects him/her once again in college?

How were your grades after your sophomore year?

My grades dramatically improved after sophomore year. After several visits to a psychologist I’ve since learned how to deal with my anxiety effectively and haven’t had an issue with it since.

Well, that’s good! Not only for your own mental health, but also because college admissions like improvement. As long as you can explain your situation without sounding whiny and full of self-pity, then do it! You have to make sure you can explain your situation in a professional manner and at the same time give it a positive twist by explaining how it has made you so much stronger, blah blah blah… Definitely make sure your guidance counselor talks about it too. Otherwise, they might just think you’re coming up with excuses; if you AND your counselor talk about it sounds more legit.

Good luck!

Just emailed my counselor! Thank you SO much for your help :)
