I have a question about what goes on behind the admission doors. I know that certain admission officers review applicants from certain states...but do ALL the admission officers get to review your application? Or is it just one person who decides your fate at Johns Hopkins? Or is it two?

if anybody knows, please respond. thank you~

those links provided some helpful information, and thanks for responding by the way, but they still did not provide an answer to my question.

Does only 1 person read your application, or do 2 people read it, or do 3 people read it, or does everyone read it? Is there like a specific process where an admission officer chooses the applicant from their "states" and then all the officers come together in one big room and try to convince each other to admit their students?

The links provided by Jimmy are quite helpful. I thought I had answered these questions before on CC, but I couldn't find them ... so a new answer you get.

Here is the path an application goes through once it is complete:

(1) Passed to the regional admissions counselor (http://apply.jhu.edu/contact/staff.html) and is evaluated comprehensively. This read takes typically between 15-20 minutes.

(2) Passed then for a second read by another admissions counselor based on a specific defined area. Second reads can be grouped by academic interests (for instance I second read engineers) or because of legacy, or athletic recruit, or some other area we defined. This read is less time, maybe 10 minutes.

(3) Then the final "read" is a small committee review where final decisions are rendered.

(4) Some files may be read more than this, and a number of files actually go to the Director for final, final decisions. Actually all admits are signed off by the director.

Hope that explains it.
