Question about the admissions process

So, I was just wondering..I know that you have to submit the commonapp, but when do you submit the official transcripts and SAT scores? Could someone provide me with a resource that breaks this all down?

Thanks!

SAT scores: You can specify something like four schools to send your scores to when you register for the SATs, the SAT II tests, or the ACTs, if I recall correctly. You can also contact the College Board (on-line) anytime after you take your first test and ask them to forward official scores to the colleges of your choice. There will be a small fee, if I recall correctly. Most students either forward scores by listing colleges at the time they take the test or shortly after they take their last SAT/SAT II test. ACTs are similar. You do not need to wait until after you submit the common application to submit your test scores.

Official transcripts: These will be sent out by your guidance counselor. They will be responsible for sending a guidance counselor report as well. When you go back to school this year you should stop by the guidance office and talk with your counselor about what deadlines your school’s guidance office uses. Some schools’ guidance offices want the seniors to let them know what colleges they are applying to rather early in the fall. Others will have rules such as the request for the guidance counselor report has to be requested at least two weeks before the college’s application deadline, with additional time needed for colleges with Jan1 deadlines. The official transcripts that are sent will depend on whether you’re applying ED, EA, rolling, or RD. If you are applying early, your high school will send out your transcript as it looked at the end of your junior year along with a list of courses in progress. If you are applying RD or an EA/ED school defers you to the RD pool, your high school may also send out another transcript at the end of the first semester of your senior year. [Some schools will require this; some won’t.]

Letters of Recommendation: You should ask for letters well in advance of when they are due. Some teachers may ask you to provided them with some information before they write the letter. You may want to politely remind your letter writers of the deadlines about a week or so before they are due. If you’re using the common app and your letter writers want to do everything on-line, then you’ll enter the appropriate contact information and they’ll get an email link with instructions about how to submit their letter. If you have a letter writer who doesn’t use email, it’s common courtesy to provide the letter writer with addressed, stamped envelops for each college you are applying to.

Thanks so much robinsuesanders!
