Is the city of syracuse, seriously a D and F.....is it really that bad......Feed back would be great....what kind of great things are there to see/visit in the city........thank you in advance.

Syracuse certainly has its rough edges, but all is not urban blight and blinding “white-outs”. Some bright spots: In’line skating and the skateboard park at Onondaga Lake Park, the Westcott Theater up in the student ghetto, the Armory District (mainly for those over 21), The science museum and Imax theater (MOST), the Everson Museum of Art, the Carousel Center Mall (for those who like those sort of things), minor league baseball and hockey, Tipperary Hill on St. Patrick’s Day.

Truthfully, Syracuse the city is in serious need of an upgrade. That is the one liability I would say that the University holds even though the University isn’t bonded by the city. Please also do not be fooled by catalogues either. I remember one area in Syracuse that looks something like a tourist attraction in Paris or France and they posted it on the catalogue to represent the city of Syracuse. now looking at that one picture, one would think that coming to Syracuse the city is the equivalence of coming to NYC, London or France but please don’t succumb to the deception though.

I would tell you this though, there are things to do outside of the University but at as a student there is so much to do on campus and some students get inundated with obligations, activities and work.

I used to live in Syracuse and It is really not that bad. Basically the highway separates the good from the bad. It is a safe campus I promise!

It all depends where you decide to hang out; my husband and I explored outside of the city during parents weekend in October and found great walking trails along the river, great restaurants, etc…House of London is correct; it all depends on where you go, but so much to do on campus it is sometimes irrelevant.

I gather Syracuse isn’t much of a college town?

On another note, about how long is a drive from Syracuse to NYC?

I just came back from Syracuse, I didn’t venture into the city at all because the campus was so big and beautiful, I didn’t see any real need to explore beyond it. I think it’s totally different from other colleges in a city, where buildings are separated and there isn’t a ‘real campus’, in Syracuse everything is there and there’s so much room to do whatever you want so the need to really go off campus is a lot less. You also have to look at the fact that Syracuse is city, and any city is going to have its nice parts, and its bad parts, so when you want to go off campus, you just have to avoid the bad, just like you would in say NYC or Boston.

Thanks to all who replied…I see i wout have to worry about the city because i would be soo worked up in the University doing different things ( over 300 club, sports, ect)…

to MZPENNYLANE----- I went to syracuse this monday …and coming from nyc…it was 4 hours n 20 minutes…it reallly wasnt a bad drive
