Question about the essays

For the second essay question: Emblazoned on our University Seal is a flaming heart which symbolizes St. Augustine's passionate search to know God and love others. What sets your heart on fire?

Does your answer have to pertain to your major? Or should it show "another side" to you?

Thank you!

bump

Try to answer from your heart, not based on what you think they want you to hear. I am guessing this is a topic where sincerity is the key value they are looking for.

Right, but what if there is more than one thing you know? Not sure if I should be picking one interest over another…

Does not have to be aboutu your major, but if you could include something maybe service oriented that would be good. Villanova wants service oriented and passionate people.

Thanks!

Write about foods that give you heart burn

Omg ya!!1! @merechaude‌

Pls don’t do that. It will be cheeky, creative and probably give one or two admissions officers a good laugh, but that kind of stuff won’t fly at Villanova. Maybe it’ll get you a green light at an Ivy or one of the more “eccentric” schools that look favorably on unconventionality, but Nova is strictly business (Unless if your passion is comedy, and you mention that at the end). Your best bet on this essay is to “play the role”

Play the role

1) Begin writing about your passion (relate this to your major/intended major)
2) Transition into how you can use your passion to change the world/help others (Bonus points if you can help poor/black people, they love that).
3) Bring up an experience you had (could be fictional) in your life which inspired you to want to make yourself of service to the less fortunate (i.e: volunteer experiences)
4) Incorporate god and st. augustine into it

and the most important of all

5) Don’t sound superficial; they’ll know.

Good luck.

Ah thank you so much @merechaude‌
