Question about the interview

I'm doing an interview for Syracuse real soon and was wondering if they are informal like most schools' interviews or if there is a strong evaluatory element to them. They recommend to bring your transcripts, so I was figuring this was a dress up, be on your best behavior, they're taking notes kind of deal...is it?

My D just had her interview about 2 weeks ago. It was relatively informal; I wouldn't wear jeans, though (my D wore corduroys--the there also was a boy in chinos and a dress shirt. The other girl we saw was in jeans and was underdressed). Lots of difficult questions, be sure you get lots of sleep the night before. Definately more on the side of an evaluative interview.

thanks! from my experience interviewers usually don't ask "tough" questions, so that's a good heads up...

what were the difficult questions?

^I'd like to know too.

They weren't too bad! They were all personal, getting-to-know-you type questions, but I actually had to stop and think for a few. No brain teasers like, what's the integral of x^2+blahblah, LOL. Also, the person interviewing me began by saying it was informal, not required, and that it was all about just putting a face on my app.

So, don't sweat it, guys :).

Don't forget, interviews aren't required- they're just another way to get your face in admissions' head. Most people I see come in are dressed up- button downs, nice slacks, some suits. If you go to the newhouse visitors office before your interview (if you're applying to Newhouse, of course) you can actually pick up interview tips.
(come on a tuesday at 2 and I'll be your ambassador!) I LOVE doing info sessions
