I have read students say that the 62% female to 38% male ratio is a little higher for females than actually stated in recent stats, upwards towards 70% How true is this?
Bump.
It is true that while most schools these days have a higher proportion of females to males, AU seems to be a bit more extreme than some others. I think some of that is definitely because there isn’t a football team and it’s not much of a rah rah sports school. And some guys, even those who aren’t necessarily big into sports, seem to sometimes be a bit worried that they won’t find “their people” there as a result so that may keep the numbers down. That said, while i have a daughter there and can’t speak to a male’s experience at AU, I am on an AU parent website for several years and see many many parents of boys who are very happy at AU. And unofficially I feel like I’m seeing more for this upcoming year so perhaps they are trying to change the ratio (though I have no idea if that is true or not).
If you are looking for a school with a big sports mentality, AU is not that but if that isn’t important to you, you shouldn’t have a real problem with the ratio (other than yes, it may be a bit more difficult for girls to find a boyfriend, but that shouldn’t be a reason not to pick a specific school from my (mother’s) perspective.
There’s definitely a lot more girls here, especially in some majors (CAS) the males tend to aggregate in Kogod/SIS/SPA/SOC but 60:40 to 70:30 is about right.
