So I was trying to fill out the supplement, and it asks your birthplace and then how long you lived there. I was born at a hospital in a city, but my family lives in a small town nearby. Technically, I didn't live in my birthplace city until my sophomore year of high school (and moved back to the small town senior year). How do I address that?

I had the same problem. At first, I said I lived in my birthplace from age 0 to age 0, but then I decided that didn't look right. I just left where I was born off and put the first place I lived first.

It's not that big of a deal. It's not gonna make or brake your application.

true, I was just confused, i guess I could jsut leave the years blank

How far away is "nearby"? If you were born in the city but lived in one of its suburbs from the time you were a few weeks old, just put the suburb. I don't think Harvard expects you to be technical like that- especially if you were born in one place, and two weeks later lived in another. I think the point of that section is to see the different places you've lived (diverse living experiences/hardships of moving often/idk what else), and frankly, it won't make a huge difference whether you say you were born (for example) in Los Angeles or Torrance.

You definitely do NOT put the city- they'd consider your birthplace to be where your family lived when you were born (which would be in the suburb). You don't need to take it that literally- it makes no difference to them what city the hospital was in.
