Question about transferring credits at Columbia University

I am applying as a sophomore transfer to Columbia and I am curious how my credits may transfer if I were to be accepted. I am currently a finance major in the honors program at my local state school. Here are the classes I’ve taken/am taking this year:

English Composition- 101
Intro to American Government
World History to 1600
Calculus 1
Honors First Year Seminar

English Composition- 102
Honors Intro to Public Speaking
Essential of Financial Literacy
Environmental Studies
Environmental Studies Lab
Business Foundations

I should have A’s in all of these classes with a total of 32 credits. At Columbia I would hope to pursue either a Computer Science or Economics major with the special concentration in Business Management. I just was wondering how many of my credits are likely to transfer? Would they count for anything in the Core Curriculum? And would I be behind far enough that I wouldn’t be able to pursue a concentration along with my major? I know Columbia requires you to graduate in 8 semesters, so I am worried I wouldn’t be able to fit in all the classes I want to take. Thanks!

Only Columbia could tell you which of your classes will be able to transfer over. You could check to see if your classes match those offered at Columbia by going on their website. From what I know regarding your question about concentration and the core curriculum, transfer students are able to pursue a concentration, especially if they transfer in as a sophomore. Also, the core should take up at least 2 years of your time at Columbia. I know that you are able to get credit for the University Writing class and the Global Core class but for Lit Hum and Music Hum, it is harder. You can also petition for your classes to be counted as a part of the core by saving your syllabi and filling out a petition form. Hope I could help. Good luck!
