question about transferring for fall 2009

hi!
i tried to get into unc as a transfer sophomore for fall 2008, but i did not get in, so i am planning on reapplying to transfer as a junior. i just finished my first year at UNC Charlotte, and i currently have a 3.9 gpa. i took 12 hours my first semester, and 15 my second semester.

my question is, how many hours should i take for fall semester? would it be better for me to go ahead and take 17 or 18 hours (to catch up from only taking 12 last fall) but risk having more responsibility and possibly getting lower grades, or should i just stick with 15 hours and make sure to get As. which would the people working in admissions rather see?

thank you for your help!!

It'd probably make more sense just to take one less class and put more time and effort into each class. Colleges tend to prefer 5 As (4.0) to 5 As and a B (3.84).

funkmonkeee! I go to UNC Charlotte too. I also applied to UNC as a sophomore and was denied! Why are you trying to leave charlotte?

go for 15.
keep your gpa high. with an ap credit or a summer class you wil catch up.
get extra curriculars up.....good luck.

Its harder to do a sophomore transfer, they focus on high school and sats much more. I got denied for sophomore transfer also, but got in for junior transfer. I only took 15 semester hours once, then I took 17, 19, 17 respectively. I took challenging courses and i ended up with 3.50 cumm. Take challenging courses and get A's and B's, you should be fine. People say that 3.3 is competitive for junior transfer, so you should definitely be fine by that time. Good luck!!

i want to transfer so that i can do journalism at chapel hill. also, i've lived in charlotte my whole life so i am ready to live somewhere a little further from my family!

my SATs were 1330 and i have an internship at a small magazine this summer... so hopefully that will outweigh my mediocre high school grades.
