Question about transferring

Around what GPA would I need at Hopkins BME to stand a chance as a transfer applicant to Duke as a general Biology major?

Why did you apply ED if you’re already thinking about transferring? Submit a petition once you’ve reviewed your financial aid and say it’s dire circumstances to break the ED binding. You may or will most likely pay a fee to do so.

My dad went to Duke and wants me to fill out the transfer app. He’s not forcing me to go, and ideally I would stay at JHU, but I’m wondering what stats I would need if I were to pursue a succesful transfer.

3.5+ at the bare minimum most likely

@bgtyhnmjuiko : Really? He thinks that little of other elites (especially JHU?) outside of Duke that he told you to do a transfer app. to Duke because he went there and you seriously entertain it?

@Jsteez : Does Duke even take that many transfers? I thought they took very little.

3.8+ would give you a good shot with commensurate HS/college ECs and stats. The most important part is to convince the adcoms what Duke has to offer that JHU doesn’t, and it doesn’t seem like you can do this part very well considering your situation.

Would talking about school spirit/sports/social atmosphere be enough or do they want academics

social is valid, though school spirit/sports will be a trite theme - you have to really expand on this and state how the change in environment would help shape your college experience, contribution, and personal growth in a monumental way. Academics would be compelling if Duke offers a course of study JHU doesn’t.
