I’m currently a freshman at wake and was wondering what my chances will be to transfer to Duke or Hopkins. My SAT was a 1510 and my GPA isn’t out yet but what requirements do I have to meet to get a good chance. I was valedictorian at my school too.
You probably would need grades that put you in the top 20% for your major to have a good shot. You can try now, but it may be better showing 3 semesters of grades.
It sounds like you went to a relatively small southern high school, and don’t have the preparation and subject test scores most students at top 30 schools do. If you show you can do work at a higher level, you should have a chance.
I transferred into Hopkins a while ago without spectacular grades at a college lower ranked than yours, but my high school record, particularly senior year grades, got messed up by some things, and I had really strong test scores and academic related ECs. If you could have gotten into somewhere a lot better but messed up your college application strategy or something like that, than you may have a good chance.
You could also apply to schools a somewhere between your current one and the two you mention.
Could I ask why you are transferring from Wake? I’ve never hear of someone having such a negative experience there that they would want to transfer. I am applying there this year, and it seems like an incredible school anyone would be lucky to attend
@sattut so you are saying that I have a real chance of getting accepted. If I may ask, what school did you transfer from?
Were you denied at Duke and Hopkins as a freshman? if so your chances are not good.
@TomSrOfBoston I got deferred by Duke but didn’t apply to Hopkins. why are my chances bad?
It will depend upon the grades earned at WFU. If all As, then you are likely to be accepted at Duke & JHU as WFU is an academically demanding school with an excellent reputation.
I also got into NYU and UVA.
