Question about Tulane Frats

I've heard the frats at Tulane can get pretty wild, but how is pledging. I only ask because I've heard that alot of southern states have really loose laws governing that type of thing. Anybody know someone in a frat there?

This year's pledging has been kind of scandalous, one aepi pledge ratted out the hazing and they all got initiated early, and we've had a variety of other problems (lots of parties shut down, etc). But really, the pledging varies wildly depending on the Frat but you'll find all that out when you get here. And rushing doesn't even begin until the spring so you'll make tons of friends before then. Either way, within a semester you'll know pretty well which frats have a reputation for rough hazing.

I thought Tulane's policy was that you needed to have completed atleast 12 credits in order to pledge?

Meaning if you were planning on transfering like I am you could pledge fall semester. Is that incorrect?

I don't mind the idea of moderate an reasonable hazing (forced exersize, over eating, that type of thing) but I don't plan on being someones b1tch for a straight semester and I don't plan on engaging in life threatening activitys either. (being forced to drink a liter by yourself in one night)

Good luck then, Healin.

Like it's been said, there's a lot of frats at Tulane. Some haze really bad (Pike, AE Pi, Sammy, etc.) but other than those infamous ones, the rest don't haze too too much. You just have to look for the frats that have guys you like and respect, and you'll generally be okay. Compared to other schools, especially other Southern schools, I don't think we have a huge hazing culture. My cousin at LSU had a much harder time than anyone I've ever heard of at Tulane having.

What do "Pike" and "Sammy" stand for?

And how will I learn once I get there, assuming I get in? Do they really share that type of info with perspective pledges? And if the frats dont tell you themselfs than how reliable would you say random rumors are?

Pi Kappa Alpha and Sigma Alpha Mu.

My freshman year, DKE was by far the worst, though I guess they're gone now. It changes year to year; we'll see what AEPi does next year considering what happened earlier this year.

What did happen exactly? (Any details?)

This is all alleged, I guess, because you can't know for sure... but apparently last year the Pike pledges got scalding hot crab oil poured on them, the Sammy pledges had to drink in a humid room until they threw up, and both frats tell their pledges to start fights and all with each other. I know AE Pi got in trouble when one of their pledges went to Tulane, but I don't know what they actually did.

The actives won't tell you obviously about their hazing rituals when you're a rushee, but you can kind of figure it out based on what type of people the actives are. Plus, the rumors, while not all true, are generally pretty accurate. But like I said, all frats are different, and at least half of the ones at Tulane don't really haze all that much, or in such a painful/demeaning way. We all learned pretty quickly, so you definitely will too.

the pike crab oil is absolutely true...a pike pledge on my hall last year walked around shirtless late at night with really red skin all over, this was a regular occurrence

um, what the heck is crab oil (?)

what about the sororities?

bump 10 char
