question about UC Essay

This is the first essay prompt:

Describe the world you come from — for example, your family, community or school — and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.

My question is: Do you have to mention the career that you are pursuing in this essay? I hear from others that they talk about becoming doctors and such, but is that required? If I'm not exactly sure what I want to do, but am interested in a certain major, then do I have to wrap my whole essay around that theme?

What I was thinking of doing was writing about my future goals, not just a certain career.

Thanks.

Nope, my UC essay didn't even mention what I wanted to be. Your "dreams" don't necessarily have to be in the form of a career.

It doesn't seem to specify that its supposed to be career-oriented so go ahead and write about your future goals =) good luck!

If you don't mention a specific career though, won't your future goals sound really general on paper? Like it would be to do your best in whatever you choose to do, to work hard, and to achieve your goals. Does stuff like that count as dreams and aspirations?

sort of. dreams and aspirations can be careers and professions, yes, but like what the others said, they don't.

dreams and goals can be stuff like "I dream that one day I can teach my children the way my parents taught me" or "I hope to one day give back to the school that helped make me who I am today".
