Question about UC Essay Prompt #1

The prompt is "Describe the world you come from - for example, your family, community or school -- and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations."

What if I'm undecided on what I want to do? I really have no clue yet, I'm applying undeclared. How do the last question?

Try writing about a personal goal instead of a career one. That worked for me.

What do you mean it "worked" for you? Were you an 07er?

'Dreams' don't necessarily pertain to careers! Maybe write about anything you want to accomplish in life?

There are actually a lot of ways to answer this question without having decided on a major. Of course you have to examine your background as well.

For example-

Educational Goals:
A person may think it's important to go to colege because they are a first generation college student....
A person may think it's important to go to college because their parents have stressed the importance of education (or maybe modelled this through their own education)....
You may have a goal of getting a strong liberal arts background because you want the opportunity to explore options that were not available in your high school.....

Community Service Goals:
You can discuss how a particular community service has encouraged you to do further service in that area.

Other Goals and Aspirations Examples:
You may be searching for an educational and career goal in which you will be happy (maybe a family member has a job they love or hate)
Or, maybe you want to find a lucrative or stable job which could be the result of growing up poor or rich.....

I hope this helps you generate ideas. This essay topic is very open ended so you should be able to come up with something.

No, sorry for not being clear. I'm an 08er, but I mean it worked for me in the sense that I finally had something to write about. I tried to write about a career goal at first, but it just didn't work for me. Nothing was coming out. Writing about a personal goal was easier.
