Question about uc transfer GPA

when applying to transfer, do they really only calculate your gpa out of the uc transferable courses? Or is that just how they calculate your gpa that you will have once you get in?

I was reading another post where someone said they got into ucla with some earlier f's but the fs were in non uc transferable classes so they did not count.
I am asking because I wanted to apply to transfer to ucsd, and my gpa is around a 2.6, however all of my f's are in classes taken at CU boulder, and are non uc transferable.... Without those, my Gpa out of just uc transferable credits is likely to be a bit above 3, so I may have a chance if this is true........ Any insight on this subject is greatly appreciated.....

Also, if doing tag, is the 90 credit limit just for uc transferable credits? I have around sixty, and if I complete the tag requirements, Ill have about 105 credits, but not over 90 uc transferable ones. My councelor told my I could not do tag because of the credit limitation, and may be right, but I was just wondering if maybe she didnt think about the fact that alot of my credits wont transer.... at least enough so that Ill still be under 90 UC transferable credits after completing the tag requirements. thanks again for any help

Not to scare you or anything, but the minimum gpa requirement to transfer to ucsd is a 2.8. I know the TAG agreements you must meet the gpa requirement. I know that for the TAG agreement for UC Santa Cruz, you have to have a 3.0 minimum. I could be wrong. As for the credit limit, I think you are fine because the classes that aren't UC transferable won't count anyways.

I know... I will be at a 2.8 soon. but Im trying to figure out if I already do, according to uc's. I swear it sais I have to have a 2.8 in uc transferable courses. If that is so, than I do. Or is the gpa requirement cumulative?

Im also trying to figure out about the credit thing. Because I calculated all of them out, and my total credits when I complete tag (with the credits from the fs) will be over 90. My councelor told me there is NO way to do it. I already explained that, sorry. But ya, I just really want to figure out for sure if the non uc transferable credits count toward the 90 unit max......

evo9...your gpa calculation for UC admittance is based on UC transferrable classes only. I had an F in one of my non UC transferrable classes I took a year ago in a CCC & I still got into Berkeley. The application requires you to put all classes regardless if transferrable or not but it puts a marker next to the transferrable ones only so that it calculates your GPA...hope this helps

That does help....thanks!!!
I might actually have a pretty decent uc gpa

So are ccc counselors not too smart or what? Because mine was telling me I had to bring my total cumulative gpa up to a 2.8 before I could even sign the tag. She didnt even mention that it just had to be 2.8 in uc trans. credits.
Hopefully she was wrong about the 90 total credits too, in which case my admittance to ucsd will be much easier.

When I look at the ucsd tag form, it sais you need a 2.8 in uc transferable courses, and no more than 90 transferable credits.... So hopefully im in the clear here.... Maybe I should make an appointment with an actual transfer advisor from ucsd to get some real answers.... CCC counselors have never been much a help to me, although the one I have now is really cool, and at least tries to help.

luvtoolearn: You are talking about when you file the UC application.

The tag agreement is completely different. You first have to get your tag agreement accepted by UCSD before you even do the application where you list your transferable classes.

Anyone else want to throw down some input?

hey evo, at my CCC in order to be eligible for TAG, the student in question must complete a class that essentially equates to "how to be successful in college 101." The class must be taken in the first or second semester at the cc. I am not to familiar with how the TAG agreement works out for student who have already completed college course work at another univ. As for the units, if you go over 90 units then UCSD will take the 90 units that are transferable and will not offer credit for classes determined to be non transferable as well as anything above the 90 unit cap. And like everyone else has mentioned an F in a non transferable course may have to be divulged but will not be calculated into your gpa. In any case even if you cannot get in the TAG program, with the F's being thrown out and a few solid semesters of CC classes you should be able to pull your GPA up enough for a shot at UCSD.

cc counselors are usually incompetent, unless they work at SMC or DVC

I think you should talk to UCSD rep about the 90+ units. I know someone who was rejected from SD and when she asked them why, SD said it was because she had too many units, despite her being an excellent applicant (she got in everywhere else). She did IGETC + Chem major reqs, so her units were around 90 or so. However we didn't have UCSD TAG at our school, so maybe TAG will make a difference.

Cool, thanks for the replies. Im definately going to talk to a ucsd admissions couselor, and get some answers that are set in stone. Im also trying for usd, so well see how that goes. Thanks again.
