Question about UC's

After high school, if i take summer school classes at a cc, but i'm gonna go to a UC and I dont do well in the CC classes do I have to report the bad grades to the university?
Please help!

Yes, you must report **all college work attempted **- even if you do not receive credit because of withdrawal or failing grades - to any college or university to which you apply and/or attend, including the UCs. If you are unable to do reasonably well in your community college classes, you are very likely not ready for UC-level classes.

In looking at your past posts, it seems you have enrolled at UCSB for Fall, so YES, you must report your bad grades from over the summer to UCSB.

If you fail to report all college work attempted, the possible consequences include having your acceptance rescinded, being expelled after enrolling, and having any degrees granted revoked.

alamemom, of course you are right, but I’m wondering, how would UCSB ever know? If the OP never asked for any transcripts, or credits, to be sent over to the U, how would they ever know? Of course you could NEVER take another class at that CC ever, because any transcript from there would reflect all work done.

The transcripts themselves can only be released by the student, so there would be no way for UCSB to know the exact grades, but it would be very simple for them to determine that someone attended another institution - the fact that you attended is not private information and can easily be searched for - especially between the UCs and California Community Colleges.

If a student chooses to attempt to conceal the information, they will then go through the rest of their lives looking over their shoulder hoping it isn’t discovered. (Universities can, and do, revoke degrees even years later when these things are discovered.) And for NO reason, because poor grades in a summer community college class not needed for high school graduation will not result in having admission rescinded.

And there would be no problem taking another class at the CC over the next summer if the transcripts are properly submitted. Re-taking the same class and getting a GOOD grade would actually be an excellent idea the following summer and show that the student has actually learned something - and matured a bit.

The plan to “hide” the transcript is not only dishonest (the student has submitted a SIR to UCSB and so has sworn that all transcripts have beeen/will be submitted) it is very childish.
