I'm a sophomore playing JV soccer, and I am interested in playing D3 college soccer. Would it be bad to send video highlights this year since I'm only on JV? Our soccer program is very, very competitive. We're one of the top teams in the state, and the varsity team consistently has girls going to play for highly ranked D1 colleges after high school. Would it just be better for me to wait until next year to send highlights, when hopefully I am on varsity? Or is JV okay?

I know when it comes to boys lacrosse the coaches don’t want to see JV highlights, but you can make the call as to whether your team is at a higher level than most.

My son is a freshman this year and I had him send his highlight film from his summer before highschool to prospective colleges.

Remember…a big part of what you’re doing right now is getting on the coaches radar. Make sure you are filling out the questionair they have on their website is a great way to get on their radar. If your highlight are really good maybe they will separate you from others your age.

Good Luck

Thanks for the input.

Bump.

Great advice from Marshack. Getting on the coaches “radar,” or introducing yourself to the coaches, is the best thing you can do now. Even calling them in their off season just to introduce yourself is a good idea, with a follow up email. And it is significant that you, rather than a parent, are the person to call. It shows the interest in the school is driven by you, and not parent-driven.
