Question about work-study

I’m going to UNC this fall and I’ve been given work-study as past of my financial aid packet. When should I start applying for jobs? I want to do research and I’ve found some. I’d like to get them before it’s too late.

Work study asks you to accept or decline their offer. Then, you apply to jobs on campus that are “work study” eligible. There is no guarantee that you will receive the amount posted because it depends on your job and hours.

You can choose to decline your work study offer and go get those jobs on your own.

I assume you mean UNC-CH. They have a web site that list the work study jobs. I have no idea if it list all the jobs but I suspect they will list most. The web site will tell when and how to apply. Search the database all summer to identify which jobs you qualify and apply immediate as soon as you are allowed. Do not wait until you are on campus. The jobs go fast. You will be contacted for interviews (usually the first two weeks out school).

Keep in mind you will need a copy of your birth certificate and maybe your Social Security card once you are hired. My daughter could not start until she had these.
