Hello! Question: I want to lessen the cost of university by participating in work study and while working as a part time tutor. Is this idea unreasonable for an engineering major with a goal of a 3. 75 gpa? Any advice for attempting this?
Time management x100. Stay on top of homework and studying. Do not fall behind.
Did you get work study in your financial aid package?
I know you want to do,your best, but why are you setting the bar at a 3.75 GPA?
Ok…all that aside, I would suggest that you work no more than 10 hours a week. I would do only one job…either the tutoring OR another job…not both.
Technically know, I was told to request it and my request is pending .
@bodangles Thank you !
@thumper1 Well a 4.0 is ideal! However I’ve met too many teachers who take pride in having classes that only give out one or two A’s per semester. And I need above a 3.75 if I want to be competitive for entering my major.
And was hoping 10-15 hr per 2 weeks of tutoring (maybe increase it if I can manage it first semester). Manageable? Because I want the work study job to help cover miscellaneous expenses and extra meals and I don’t know how much of that income I could directly put into savings for the following semester.
My S is an engineering major, an athlete, and on Dean’s list every semester. Athletic schedule is at least 15 hours/week, so a work schedule can be managed.
There are some on-campus jobs that allow you to read/do homework when you aren’t otherwise occupied (library, athletic supply desk, tutoring when there is no one requiring your services!), so you might consider that as well. (personally I think its healthy to have time - athletics, job, whatever - when your mind is NOT on your schoolwork).
