Hi guys,
I am currently a high school rising senior in New York City. I am thinking of applying to a ton of BA/MD programs, many of which are out of state. My parents said they are not going to give me extra money to travel out of state / book hotels, etc. So if I am invited for interview, do I have to physically travel to those UG/Med school for the interview? Or can I actually do an telephone interview with them? Or does this depend on the school? If so, can anyone please list BA/MD programs that allow telephone interviews and those that do not?
Thanks!
To the best of my knowledge, all the BS/MD programs expect in person interview, with no exceptions. It is an expensive process, not just in terms of money, but for time also. Since you need to focus on your senior year course work, strongly suggest, request one of your parent to help you to play the admin role, in terms of reading this site, maintaining excel file with all details, app process/status etc., You also need to narrow down the list based on many factors including finance for the program (not just interview alone) based on if are eligible for financial aid or merit aid etc., Being on east coast, has distinctive advantage since majority of the programs are in east and mid west and you can drive also for few programs. In NY itself many programs Stony Brook, Brooklyn, neary NJ, Conn, Rhode etc.
I see. Thanks a lot for the thorough clarification and advice!!! I will definitely update my parents with this news and hopefully convince them to play a more proactive role. I will try to narrow down my list to those that I can actually visit/pay tuition for.
Thanks
Hey, @undecidedfolk3, besides maybe Brown PLME, I don’t know any another Bachelor/MD program that doesn’t actually interview you face-to-face in some way. It would be actually quite unusual for a medical school (or any professional school for that matter) to not interview you face-to-face, or to do a telephone or Skype interview. There definitely are ways to save costs – i.e. racking up plane flights for points later to use for travel for free flights, Airbnb to stay at someone’s place rather than staying in a ritzy hotel. I understand the concern about costs, so if that’s the case, I would narrow down the list as to medical schools that you wouldn’t mind going to if given an acceptance. Don’t just apply to every Bachelor/MD across the country willy-nilly. @GoldenRock’s post with advice pretty much grand-slam hit it out of the park. NY itself has quite a few Bachelor/MD programs also.
Agree Brown, no interview, My D went to at least 4 interviews and you need to go
