Incoming freshman here. Two of my classes have no textbooks listed on Gold. Since one of these classes is Sociology 1 that seems odd. As I would like to have necessary books in advance of first day of class, what do you suggest? E-mailing the professor is an obvious possibility but seems inefficient from the prof's perspective. Thanks in advance for any help.

You should try this site: http://www.ucsbstuff.com/SelectTermDept.aspx

When are we SUPPOSED to have our books? The first day of class?

Yes, that is the site and there are no books listed for my classes and yes I would assume it would be prudent to have them the first day of class.

Bump. Any current students who can answer question? Hairylemon perhaps?

Matrix, I doubt you want to summon The Hairy Lemon. Big mistake
Kidding though. Did you try the website that EnterSandman gave you?

**I HAVE BEEN SUMMONED TO ANSWER MATRIX’S QUESTION.

DUN-DUN. DUN-DUN-DEE-DUN, DUN DUN!**

On a more serious note –

If there are no books listed for your class in question (esp. for a class like Soc I), then email the professor. Or wait until the first day of classes to see what the syllabus says.

(My personal input: I am dead sure there are textbooks for Soc 1. The professor may be just too lazy to list the books, or he/she hasn’t decided which book to use. . .yet.

I did a simple search on Craigslist for Soc 1 books, and this ad seems to confirm my suspicions (unless the seller had a different Soc 1 professor.)

Got it. Thanks! :)
