Well, first of all, I have no idea why someone would start a thread about smoking on here but I just had to get involved.

First of all, studies on smoking are ALL biased! It's either funded by the government, who are out to prove that all smokers will die unnaturally at the age of 30, or by the tobacco companies who are out to prove that smoking is healthy. It goes both ways.

Also, I'm sure that in these "studies" they put lab rats in a box, light some cigarettes and observe while they die of cancer. HELL YES the rats are going to die from it, they weigh 1 pound. (The same thing happened with the Tang study-remember that causes cancer too!!)

Anyway, everyone gets cancer from everything. Yes, secondhand smoke is more unhealthy than other things but unless you're trapped inside a room with two-pack-a-day smokers, I think you'll be okay... you annoying prat.

not trying to be rude but the thred starter should get off the high horse. smoking is bad, smokers can be the first ones to tell you that. if you're going to blame smokers for polluted lungs, why don't you blame every user of a car?

i thought people who smoked in public were jerks until i went to europe and just got used to -tons- of people smoking. i don't smoke (or plan to start), but i'm glad i could be flexible and learn to deal with it.

OP, you said that you shouldn't have to deal with people's "disgusting habit" while you're in public. Well, to a lot of people, smoking is a nice activity for them, and lets be honest, the dangers of 2nd hand smoke is not because once a month you're behind a dude who smokes. As others have said, the dangers of 2nd hand smoke are associated with people who are constantly exposed to smoking. Even in those anti-smoking ads, it was always "My husband smoked all the time" or "I worked in a smoke filled bar" not "occasionally I saw a dude smoking and it smelled." I'm actually not a smoker, but I know that with today's laws regarding smoking indoors, the amount of harm 2nd hand smoke does to me is so miniscule that in my opinion at least, it is absolutely a violation of people's right to the pursuit of happiness that they can't smoke OUTSIDE.

What an obnoxious post. If I had better control of my feelings, I'd just roll my eyes and move on... But I must know: What are you trying to prove? You're succeeding only in being annoying. Don't like smokers? Don't befriend them. Don't want to smoke? Don't. And don't assume smokers are "selfish" either.

What an utterly useless thread on an otherwise totally useful site.

im personally not a smoker but a lot of my friends are. i really dont care if they smoke in public. they just have to exhale in the direction of the wind. its no big deal
