Question from a Brown admit

I got into Brown, but I don’t know whether it was for my first- or second-choice major. Is there any way to find out?

I’m 99% sure they don’t really look at majors at all during admissions / it’s not really a factor. In fact, you don’t declare your major/concentration as a freshmen, anyways. We get to choose classes this August, I believe.

I’m also a Brown admit this year, hopefully I’ll see you this fall!

You not have to declare until your second semester Sophomore year. So for all intents and purposes, it doesn’t matter.

If you listed Engineering, you will probably be paired with a professor in the Engineering department as a first-year advisor only because if you are seriously considering it, you need to get started asap. But you can change advisor after the first year and you’re obviously not restricted in asking for advice from other faculty.

Yes, as stated, it is wide open for you. You will take your first year classes on whatever you like. Declare one of those or a completely different major the next year.
