Question from Bluebook(test #4, sec 7(CR), #18)

The passage is about the environmentalism.

Two authors present their ideas about environmental popularizers and environmentalism, respectively.

The question is about the specific information in line 76 of passage 2.

It said like below.

Blar, blar ,blar something of bad images of environmentalism, with the examples of dire future of the planet lest we were prepared. But, insofar as Western world is concerned, this line of thought is an anachronism, rendered obsolete by its own success. blar blar blar...

The question is what the phrase "rendered...success" imply?

The answer is the phrase "rendered...success" indicates (a) the disired of environmentalists have changed over the years.

I chose (e) environmentalsim plays on the political concerns of both liberals and conservatives because I could not understand why the connection between the phrase and (a) exists. Well, the answer choice (e) certainly exists at the bottom of that paragraph. I know it would be wrong at the time I finished this section, because it did not logically make sense whatsoever to me.

Right now, I have been checking for the wrong answers for bluebook that I did use in January, to prepare for May test, and I think maybe "the change of thinking process" of political figures could be the reason why the environmentalists' tasts have changed.

Am I right? I am not sure for my guessing.

What does it mean by "its own success"?? I do not understand this particular meaning because if "this line of thought" is the subject for the phrase, then it means this line of thought has been successful that possibly indicates dire expectation from environmentalists have been fulfilled. Or, does it mean, because of the success of environmentalist's efforts to prevent such horrible accidents, that this line of thought became no longer available?

Or, do I have to see this sentence more simply that the word "anachronism" suggests the change of the environmetalists' attitude?

It really hags me right now, I think my brain is going to be a trash. lol

Help me, geniuses of critical reading!!

the change should be recognized by obsolete by its own success I believe, I do not have the book so I cannot answer you completely.
