Question- has Wash U. ever called late June?- Waitlisted

I just talked to an admissions councilor and it sounds like the class is full and they will be sending the letters out next week to tell everyone. What a sad end to months and months of hopeful waiting.

Wait list is closed, they already give out the room numbers and they have no room for anybody else. All the classes are filling up very quickly; it’s a mess this year!

Trapper, how do you know all this? Are you currently a student at WashU?
What exactly do you mean that it is a mess this year? I know this past year's freshmen class had problems due to over-enrollment, but I thought this years incoming class would be held to prior years numbers and would alleviate the problems encountered last year.

the full classes tend to work themselves out: upperclassmen and current students in general consistently over-enroll so that they can shop around for a week or two before dropping between one and three classes, opening up space for younger students or people who were otherwise waitlisted

Also, at least for the general large introductory classes, more seats are opened up when those who didn't go to an artsci weekend register for classes.

Yes its sad. But it is what it is. WashU is not alone. Many, many schools had HUGE wait lists this year. I know for a fact that Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina had a large wait list this year and very, very few got called off the list. Several northeastern schools reported long wait lists. One school had an increase of over 7,000 applications this year.

The net effect of all this is that kids who would have been admitted to WashU or another highly selective school, will be rejected or waitlisted, and then have to pick another school....perceived to be lower in the ranks....the "
trickle down theory" is what a lot of administrators are saying.

But fear not, the mid tier schools are getting smarter and smarter kids, and those schools are becoming very popular.

My D did not get a call from WashU either. While sad, we have moved on to our destination in the Northeast and are VERY happy to be going there (where they had a HUGE wait list as well, though she was admitted regular admission).

Just yesterday I met a kid who got "burned" so to speak at his first and second choice schools last year. He ended up at UNC Wilmington and he told me yesterday he couldnt be happier. He is doing very well with a 3.7 gpa and intends on going to graduate school. He likes his classes, loves his classmates, and enjoys his professors in a beautiful setting in a pictoresque town.

So cheer up. Bid WashU good bye. We may be back to see them for graduate school.

So long, y'all.

Peace.

Good luck to you and your D, Wash U misses a great person

Thanks. They did indeed....she is a gem. But sometimes things are meant to be as they are.....and you have to go with that. She is grateful to be going where she is, and no parting bitterness towards WashU. There are a handful of WashU PhDs at her school....lol...so that is good too.

So Carpe Diem to everyone.

Darn- closed and bombs away. Hope dies in my heart. Thank you for the information- that door is closed. And shut.

Ciao all!

where is everybody heading?
