Question involving the TI 89 Graphing Calc.

How do I, for example, enter this equation into the calculator?
Solve for:

4x-2, given that x=5

I know all the buttons like x, the comma, the parameter (the bar button), but I just don't know what order to pick these in to make it all work. Can somebody show the steps or write it out how you would put type it in.

Thanks.

That’s not an equation though…

solve(4x-2=y,y)|x=5

that would solve for y which would be the answer.

^ thanks! this is save me a lot of trouble

that seems like more work than just multiplying and subtracting if you already know x rofl

^ what r u talking about?
The problems are gonna be like:
Solve for y when teh equation is y=6x^3+2x^2-6x-4 , given x=3
I’d take the calculator route to avoid stupid mistakes and to do it faster.

Another way is to assign y1=6x^3+2x^2-6x-4 and then type:
y1(3) Enter

lol i meant just multiplying it out with the calc, which i still think would be quicker :P

but these are just examples. if its really long questions, ti89 will do it quicker

I suppose although i mean, if you just instead of typing x put (xvalue) wherever it appears but nonetheless i’m done arguing hahah

TI 89s arent allowed on the SATs… I dont understand how you guys dont know this yet.

TI 89’s are allowed. I dont understand how you dont know it yet.

I personally used TI 89 on the November test.

WOW sorry then, a friend told me that. Thats Awsome!!! Easy 800. Is it also acceptable for the Math II?

Not sure how you can use TI 89 to get an 800 on math SAT. You dont really need a calculator there. It does come handy on Math II though (but any TI will be plenty).

■■■■ yes!!! solve my equation in 10 sec calculator? thanks buddy ti 89
