question, is cornell easy/hard to get in

yes, i am a girl. but dayobball always calls me "man." lol crazy kid. good luck to you day. and wow i thought i was being mean in my last post on this thread- i'm glad everyone else agrees. "easy" ha.

lol sry its a boston thing jkjk

yeah your sat scores are kinda low. even if you have difficulties with english you could still have done better in math

with those SAT scores cornell is certainly not a safety, more of a reach. Not that they're not perfectly good scores, and very good in the grand spectrum of things, but for cornell they are nothing standout.

However, if you are a female engineer, that will greatly help your cause.

mmm k... bu i guess is more of a safety/match whereas cornell is a reach. hotness. im not as worried about the sat issue b/c i talked to my interviewer about how im not the best sat test taker in terms of the verbal section and she was absolutely understanding and its not the end of the world at all. cornell is not as much of a crapshoot as mit though, which makes me a bit more comfortable in applying.

jeez louise. i wish i could refer to an ivy league school or top tier school as a safety.

Does being a NY resident help admissions to all schools at Cornell or only a few? I was under the impression that only a few schools at Cornell are funded by the state. Sorry to bother you with this simple question.

being a NY resident doesn't help at all, anywhere at cornell, last I checked.

your interviewer has no say and very little weight in your admissions...obviously they'll take into account your SAT issues, but low scores (for engineering) certainly won't make cornell a match for you.

not engineering... arts and sciences...

You have above-average EC's but you have below-average test scores.

Cornell is in no way a "match" for you.

Ok, so you have weak testing skills, so they will overlook your bad SAT scores?

For instance, an applicant's bad GPA will not be overlooked because the applicant says he/she has bad work-ethic.

Having weak testing skills is a bad thing.

I think you should try at least. They do like to see women engineers.

an EC is what you yourself need to take initiative/interest in to do... how would you have a weakness in EC's??

also its not all tests... just the sat verbal. ive done great on my regents exams, a 97 on the english one.

The writing is on the low side too
Yes, your SATs are below average, and you can't use the excuse that "Cornell will understand my low SAT scores" If this was the case, wouldn't everyone and their mother with a 1700SAT apply to Cornell? Cornell will understand that they're just bad test takers. Right?

Cornell really is a reach for everyone, just some less than others.
On the bright side, your ECs are good.

Wait a sec.

So you don't have weak test taking skills?

Sounds like you just didn't do very well on SATs (which is understandable because not everybody does "well" on them, but it is a weakness regardless)

Besides, your SAT writing score leaves a little to be desired as well.

Congratulations on your EC achievements, and by all means apply RD because you have a solid chance, but my point was that it is by no means a match for you, and for most other applicants, as far as admissions is concerned.

Ermm ... you don't have any? Wouldn't that be a weakness in EC's?

also its not all tests... just the sat verbal

So, your weak test taking is only applicable to the verbal section of the SAT? I think you're just making excuses for your bad verbal score, which will come through when the adcom looks through your other scores. Taking responsibility for your low scores is much more responsible than attributing them to selective poor test taking.

well said spanks.

i can't believe you think that just because your interviewer said your low test scores "weren't the end of the world at all", cornell would be a match for you. or whatever you think it is. i agree with spanks- you're not "a bad sat test taker in terms of the verbal section"... you just have a bad SAT verbal. i'm sure there are plenty of "good sat takers" who have similar EC's. college is hard to get into.

geez tensions

An ivy as a safety?

You'll definitely have to pull those SAT scores up. I'd say as of now it's a reach, but don't give up hope. See if you can raise them a bit, and then I'm sure you'll have a better chance.
