Question of the Century: SSD or Hybrid Hard Drive?

Is a 256 GB SSD worth the extra cost over a 1TB hybrid hard drive? Solely based on speed and performance

Price of real SSD is dropping fast. I would want all SSD because it has better drop protection agaist data loss.

samsung ssd 256gb is around $100 now. you can always upgrade later

All SSD. Speed is awesome.

I’d still go for hybrids at this point. I need capacity, and I don’t have the budget for a terabyte SSD. Hybrid is a good compromise, IMO, getting you a chunk of the speed at a fraction of the cost. SSD still also has limited read/write cycles, which one of my co-ops made me paranoid about.

Maybe you didn’t realize that mechanical hard drives have failure modes, too. And, it seems only logical to point out that hybrids will have the drawbacks of both.

The way to solve the space problem is to offload noncritical storage to an inexpensive portable drive.

SSD internal, HDD external. I play all my games besides Skyrim on my external HDD and runs them all great. 5400rpm even and its still speedy. SSD for internal or nothing these days.
