I am thinking of purchasing a sony vaio z690..
I have recently learned about the benefits of a solid state drive..
I also learned that it is quite expensive.
However as a college freshman, prospective finance major, is the ssd worth the money?
The laptop itself seems to be a good laptop so idk if a ssd is something i need to add.

Thanks.

its not. not unless you have a huge budget

i’m the biggest fan on SSD’s ever. I promise you. the only thing is is that its not worth the money right now unless thats a non-issue. go ahead and buy a normal laptop, and in a year or so, check around for prices. they will have gone down dramatically, and you can upgrade then. replacing hdds in laptops these days is super easy.

i assume you already know this, but the only real benifit you’re going to get is a much smoother user experience. its not going to boost performance per se, and its not like computers are slow these days.

The best SSDs come from Intel right now and they are small and expensive. They do improve the the user experience quite a bit from what others have told me.

I like large disks more than fast and expensive disks. The technology will get better and better but for the vast majority, the value isn’t there yet.
