Question on becoming an Anesthesiologist

I was wondering what major would be the best to get into medical school for anesthesiologist. I've heard that getting a bachelor's degree in medical science will lower my chances of getting in because of all the people that go for the same degree. I plan on transferring from a community college to a university in California. Please help!

No major will assist you in matching into an anesthesiology residency. (You must complete med school before you can match into a specialty.) Your ability to match in a specific specialty is determined by your performance in med school–your grades, your research, your letters of recommendations from your clinical instructors, your scores on national standardized exams.

Generally speaking your undergrad major has little bearing on whether your are able to get accepted into med school. Your GPA, sGPA and MCAT are much more important that your major. So long as you complete all pre-requiste coursework, you can major in any field. Among my daughter’s med school classmates, majors range from bio to math to engineering to Spanish to English lit to history to theology to sociology to music theory & performance to forestry.

whats the sGPA?

sGPA= science GPA (only bio, chem, math, physics courses)
