Question on "change in the information in [my] application"

Hello,

Prior to second semester senior year (this semester), I anticipated taking a certain course (a non-requisite elective) at my school, and marked it as such on my RD applications. When second semester actually began, I found I didn’t really enjoy the course and dropped it within the allowable period (I go to a high school that operates with a university and thus has a course add/drop system). With acceptances coming in, I’m seeing statements like (this is Duke’s) “If there is any change in the information in your application - including academic, personal, disciplinary, or legal matters… you must contact us within 72 hours.” Would my counselor have sent in a midyear report including the information for my finalized class schedule for this second semester? Would it be necessary to contact the Duke admissions office, notifying them that I ended up dropping this course, or would they already know of this change?

Thank you!

You certain should ask your GC if s/he advised your “target institutions.” If s/he did not, which is likely, you definitely should do so (succinctly). I seriously doubt, under the circumstances you described, if this course alteration will have any significance. HOWEVER, you never want to create a potential (even a very slight potential) “integrity question.”

@TopTier I’ve talked with my counselor, who’s told me that my Midyear Report, which included my courses-in-progress for this spring semester, did not include this class that I dropped… so I’m guessing the admissions offices will have referred to this more official, accurate document than what I wrote in my application. Thank you for your help!
