I'll be applying to Delaware this fall, and I feel fairly confident that I'll be accepted. I originally thought that I also wanted to apply to the Honors program, but now I'm not so sure. It's not that I'm lazy, but I just don't know if I would want the added work that Honors courses would add.
For anyone who has had experience with it, what are your thoughts on Delaware's Honors program? How much does an Honors curriculum differ from a non-Honors one?
I'm also worried that if I don't apply for Honors, I won't be considered as heavily for scholarships. Is that the case, or are the two considered entirely separately from each other?
Any information is greatly appreciated.

I don’t see a downside to starting out in UDel Honors. [My D’s in the program.] You may want to review recent threads, and perhaps PM a couple of people.

Honors if accepted is a great opportunity for a variety of reasons that makes it a lot better than being a non-honors. The only downside is that you have to take an Honors Colloquium which is writing intensive but you get to choose yours and there are a bunch of topics that are interesting.

Advantages:
You only have to take a certain amount of honors credits (12 in the first year which is 4 classes)
The honors classes have only a little more work but the class size is a lot smaller such as my psych class which is 22 instead of 172-250. They also have honors sections in which you are in the regular class, but you have like one extra project.
The Honors Program will look out for you and try to get to know the students in the program
The kids are basically the same as normal kids with the fact that some like to focus more on school, especially if planning on attending graduate, med or law school.
The Honors Program also puts on a lot of programs only for the kids in the program to give them time off from work and allow them to be social with other students and have fun.
For scholarships it doesn’t matter if you apply honors or non-honors, some non-honors kids have just as much money for scholarships as honors students.
Finally the honors award and the honors degree are great achievements and will look good when going for a job or applying to grad school, etc. It will also allow you to stand out from the rest of the students there.

I’m currently a freshman in the honors program

Thank you both for your help! I decided that I will apply for honors - I figure it’s better to have the option than not. I’m sending out my application tonight and keeping my fingers crossed!

btw, honors/merit deadline has been extended to dec 7. it’s on UD’s website.
