Question on my Supplemental Essay Topic

I am a STEM major. I do Math League, Math Honor Society and Science Olympiad and even have leadership positions in these clubs. But, I really, really like history. This is shown by my elective AP classes and the fact that I am in Model UN and Debate club. Would it be OK to write my supplemental essay about how learning about history made me perceive the world around me differently and how it got me interested in learning about the past? I would like to talk about how I watch old presidential debates, addresses, and speeches for fun and relate it back to real life of how I got over my fear of public speaking due to watching these debates and that past Presidents became my role models for life. Will this make admissions officers question my dedication to STEM since I like history so much?

Not at all - this will not deter admin officers in any way. On the contrary, it sounds like this will make you more attractive as a STEM major, because you are passionate about thinking about issues, and communicating your ideas.

You are still a teenager, and the fact that you are also interested in history, Model UN and debate makes you a more well-rounded candidate. If you can write well, you will be a more attractive applicant than someone who perhaps understands the science or the numbers, but can’t explain them.
