Ever since about 7th grade I was certain that I’d want to major in physics once I got to college and so my entire high school career I have focused heavily on STEM related classes and extracurricular activities. However, now that I’m several months into my junior year, I have really grown bored of anything to do with physics and have instead moved on to history, which has always interested me and which still does, unlike any science, and so my problem now is that I have a very STEM orientated high school transcript but not a desired STEM major.
Should I apply for college saying that I still want to major in physics and change my major later or should I apply saying that I want to major in history? I think I’d have a better chance if I went under physics but then there’s the problem with changing my major so I’m not so sure which is the better choice. On the other hand, my school doesn’t offer many classes in social sciences/history and so I’ve already taken pretty much all that I can in that area and have held leadership positions in related clubs (debate president, model UN founder and president).
I’m not sure if this is important to the answer but I’ll include it just in case: I’m planning on applying to higher level schools with the number one spot being Yale, I have held about a 98 GPA throughout high school (we don’t have it out of 4), and my SAT score is 1550.
Thanks for reading all this and anything you can add would help me a lot so thanks in advance if you do decide to help!
