Quick Q -
My nephew is applying to 4 colleges now (EA) w a Nov1st deadline.
He believes that his grades might improve in December where his school has an internal assessment. So, if that happens and he does well in the December exams.
How will the schools evaluate the transcripts?
Is there a provision to upload a second set of transcripts and predicted grades? Or delete the older first set and replace w the (presumably) better new results?
Does the counsellor need to clarify in a letter?
How does this work?
Much thanks!
For EA, they won’t be considered due to late submission. If deferred, and for all RD schools, the mid-year report will be part of the application review
He will meet the EA deadline w current transcripts (up to end of Oct).
The Q is if he improves grades in the Dec exams, how will it be viewed?
The answer does not change. Updates sent a month after the deadline won’t be considered. The review will be based on the transcript submitted in November
So - say have a 3.0 GPA predicted now for EA colleges.
I work hard between now and Dec, improve my grades and predicted to 3.5.
If I apply to a new set of colleges then for RD, what transcripts will be considered -
the current on w a 3.0 predicted grade
(OR)
the Dec one w a 3.5 predicted grade.
If applying RD, I assume the counselor would no longer submit a 3.0 predicted; their report should be updated before submission.
If the student is expecting a 50 basis point improvement in GPA between the early and regular deadlines, applying early may not be a sound strategy
Thanks. That’s exactly what I wanted to check - if the counselor can take down the old (3.0) transcripts and replace/update w a new one 3.5?
Answered above by @skieurope. The RD deadlines should allow your nephew to submit an updated transcript which will include the grades through December. Your nephew should make sure the counselor updates the predicted GPA. Regardless, the grades on the transcript will likely be recalculated by the college using their weighting logic to normalize GPAs across their applicant pool.

It’s hard to fathom how a GPA can jump that much in one term/semester.

Agreed that GPA improvement in 7th semester is not mathematically possible.
For OP, this is all school by school. For example, UIUC doesn’t consider 7th semester grades ever…not in RD, not if waitlisted, not if appealing a denial. So, at that school and schools like it, apply EA.

Good clarification on the exceptions to the midyear reporting of senior year grades.

I hope you understand that this is for regular decision applications. For the EA (or ED) applicant, the transcript won’t change…because the admission decision will be made with the 3.0 transcript for the those early applications, and before a midyear one is available.
If the student is deferred to regular decision, THEN the newer midyear transcript can be submitted.
