Upload Quarter 1 Senior Transcript on Common App

Hello everyone,

I’m a senior applying for early admissions to colleges. I want to upload my Quarter 1 grade on Common App since they are very good. However, my school says they can not provide me an official transcript until the end of semester 1 because of the policy/grading software they use (my school is semester-based).
My counselor says she can send my colleges a letter that indicates my grades there. However, I don’t want my grades to be sent through email b/c there’s a high possibility it can not reach colleges.
My question: Can my counselor upload the letter that indicates my grades on Common App’s Optional Report section? or does Common App require a formal transcript?

I appreciate any help from you guys.
Thank you

There is not an area to add first quarter grades unless a college asks for them specifically. You can mention your quarter grades in an additional info section like the covid related area if there was a reason previous grades were not as stellar.

Your counselor can mention/confirm your current grades in your recommendation.

After you apply, there is a portal you will log into at each school. Many of them will have a spot where you can share updates. The grades should be significantly different from what you have already reported in your transcript.

And if a school counselor feels so compelled they may email or snail mail a significant update to the admissions office if there is a great change. But this is usually reserved for some exceptional accomplishment or significant factor.

I thought the counselor can use the optional report to update the grade right?

You can request they submit for you now.

From Common App:

Senior Grades

Senior grades are necessary to complete an application. Students should ask their school counselor to submit current grades by Friday, January 14, 2022. We realize that this deadline may fall before most students receive their first semester or mid-year grades. This is why we do not request first semester grades, but rather first quarter or first trimester. We are happy to accept a report card, progress report, or similar official school document reflecting current senior grades.
