I'm currently a high school junior in Georgia and trying to become a doctor, or at least attend a good med school. Don't think that I will be able to attend any schools out of state- only way would be through a full ride scholarship. Money is a huge factor, and my parents are sending both my brother and I to college at the same time. So for me its either GaTech or UGA, perhaps Emory. Predicting good GPA and high MCATs, would it be possible to attend a good med school through UGA or GT? If not, what are other pathways I can take to become a doctor?

i love posts like these, they'r so silly! "Predicting good GPA and high MCATs"..... yea piece of cake when your typing it isnt it.....take it one step at a time HS --> college --> med school.

how about this then, whats the importance of a good med school? compared to, lets say, medical college of georgia, emory, etc.

an M.D. is an M.D. all are put through rigorous training and learn the same thing. just do well in college, earn a good gpa, do well on the MCATs and honostly i dont think prestige is a very big deal. when you have the M.D. you will land a job somewhere and be respected by many. just dont go to the carribean haha. also think about perhaps doing some lab research during college, that will help boost your med school resume big time.

some med schools may be more prestigious than others

some may prepare you better

some may have better connections to help you towards a desired residency program

but ultimately, i think most of it falls on the student

good students will become good doctors no matter where they go (but like the previous poster said, avoid the carribean med schools!)

thanks for the advice
