If I applied to Caltech EA, do I do early filing for my CSS/Profile? What's the difference between the two filing dates?

Yes, you need to file early for EA. I don't know why, but I know they list a separate one for EA applicants.

The good thing is, if accepted EA at Caltech, you should get your financial aid package in December with your acceptance if you've filed CSS/Profile early. Schools that don't require early filing of the CSS/Profile won't give you your financial aid package until they send out financial aid packages for people admitted the regular round. One difference between the two filing dates is that when you file CSS/Profile early, you have to estimate family income for 2007. And if I remember correctly, you have to provide tax documentation for 2006. If you don't file it early, you'll just need to have tax info for 2007. I know for us it was great to have the financial aid package in hand in December from Caltech - we knew not only my son was accepted - we knew we could afford it! For the other school he was accepted EA, we didn't know if we could afford it until March or April. Hope that helps.

Oh no...what if I need aid but haven't submitted the CSS profile? I'm an EA applicant, too.

yeah me too. i totally forgot about financial aid. ive been so wrapped up in just trying to get in.. hopefully caltech is sorta flexible for financial aid dates

i hope so too....as soon as i saw this post, i submitted my css...hope everything will be okay...

I called them about this, they said it's fine to submit later. I didn't fill out mine either lol :) Unfortunately, got deferred so I guess it doesn't really matter if I turned it in early or not :(
