question...

I’m fully aware of what Brown is looking for in a student. i am no stand out but i applied to Brown knowing it is a far reach.

I just wanted to know if Brown focuses strongly on extracurricular and community positions along with grades.

I am an average student taking all the AP courses the school has to offer and maintaining a ~3.8 un-weighted. But my SAT and ACT were no indication of this (which worries me the most). I am hoping my activities and extracurricular instances supplement for my lacking test scores?
For instance,

  • Vice president of nation honor society
  • roughly 300 hours of volunteer service including a trip to rebuild destroyed towns in south America and rebuild houses in Louisiana after Katrina.
  • 4 varsity letters in 4 different sports / team captain position
  • play 3 instruments
    Etc. etc…

I guess to sum it up, does character catch Brown’s selective eye or is it all test scores and grades?

From what I know, admissions at Brown is pretty holistic. They look at an applicant as a whole. Of course many people will have their strengths and weaknesses; they won’t look at your low scores and automatically reject you (unless you have below 1700 or something like that). As long as you have good ECs, recommendations, essays, and a great interview, you’ll stand a chance.
