Questions about a non-science major

<p>I know it doesn't matter what you major in as a pre-med student but (at most schools) will having a liberal arts or humanities major keep you from getting the kind of internships and research positions you need to get into med school?</p>

<p>for volunteering & shadowing, no. But, I would guess that the NIH is not hiring too many Latin majors to conduct scientific research…</p>

<p>My S was a Linguistics and Religious Studies major with a minor in chem and had an offer from the NIH to do research between his junior and senior years…depends on your overall CV, not your major.</p>

<p>I guess the main point is “too many”. And also that it depends on the research.</p>

<p>A PI isn’t going to want to select a language major to work on his investigation of liver cells where his project’s goal is to design, engineer, and develop tissue that will mimic the functions of liver cells. </p>

<p>On the other hand, if the investigation merely involves studying the habits of drosophila (flies) and their interactions and reactions, it may not be restrictive/dependent towards specific majors since you’re simply making observations.</p>
