I will be in the engineering school come next fall. I had some questions with regards to the foreign language and composition I requirements.

I have taken a foreign language for 3 years in high school - will I have to take any tests or will I automatically be exempted from fulfilling this requirement?

With regards to the comp I requirement (RHET 105), the website below says I need an ACT English of 32. I recieved an ACT English (multiple choice only) of 32 but my composite ACT English (Multiple Choice + Essay) is a 31. Also would anyone happen to know what the SAT scores needed to fulfill these requirements are? Center for Teaching Excellence

3 years foreign lang in high school = engineering 3 semester requirement at college level. So no placement test needed unless you intend to take more language in college. I am assuming you took 3 years of same language.

You need to check on what exactly is needed but my understanding last year was that you needed 32 on the English section (non essay) or an equivalent SAT critical reading score (not writing) but I do not know the SAT number.

What about if you plan to continue to study abroad eventually. I have taken 5 years of foreign language, and plan to take the AP test this spring (probably will get a 4 or 5). I want to get the credits possible, but plan to take some additional courses before I study overseas. The website says I do not need to take the language placement, but how will I know what courses I can take at registration since I won’t have my AP scores yet?

As it explains, if you intend to continue with the language you need to take the placement exam regardless of whether you will be taking the AP tests.
