Questions about CSU and other things

I am wondering what each of the different CSU’s are good at to major in. I heard Cal Poly SLO has a really good engineering school that can compare to UCB.

The main schools I am interested in are CPP, Fullerton, San Diego, and Long Beach.

I also would like to do something that is related to medical. Should I be able to go to a CSU and get into medical school?

I seriously doubt my chances of getting into a UC since my junior year grades are pretty low. My counselor told me I still had a chance to get into my top choice school (UC Davis) if I do good in my senior year. It seems hopeless because by the time I apply for colleges, I won’t even be done with the first semester of senior year. So should I even bother taking AP classes since I don’t have a chance at a top UC?

I also heard that getting a 4.0 at a CSU is the same as getting a 3.3 at a UC, is this really true? it seems like it because a UC is… well a UC. Compared to a CSU, UC’s have better academics I suppose.

Final question, how hard is it to land a job if you went to a CSU? This is what worries me the most. I’ve heard that people that have gone to UC’s were able to find jobs right after graduation. The people that went to CSU’s are having a harder time trying to get a job because they are competing with other people that went to top tier schools.

Sorry in advance, I don’t know too much about college and I’ve had these questions in my head for a while now. It’s quite a read so I hope someone can answer my questions. Thanks.

If you take AP courses and do well on the AP tests, you may get advanced placement in those subjects at many colleges. However, if you take advanced placement in pre-med subjects, you may have to take additional college courses in those subjects to make up for the skipped courses for medical schools that do not accept AP credit for pre-med courses.

The prestige value of UCs versus CSUs is likely mostly based on selectivity; the three most selective CSUs are approximately as selective as UCI, UCR, and UCM. UCs do have more of a liberal arts flavor and pre-PhD emphasis, while CSUs do have more of a pre-professional flavor.

Medical school admission is heavily MCAT and GPA focused, but additional factors are also used, such as pre-med extracurriculars, interview, etc…

CSU courses aren’t easier than UC equivalents. Go to a school where you believe you can excel, you’ll need a really solid GPA

Yes, you can get into medical school from a CSU. However, if your Jr yr grades are low, and you do not have any extenuating circumstances for low grades, then you might have to re-think what part of the medical field you are interested in. You do not have to become a physician. You could become for example:

  1. Nurse (RN, LVN)
  2. Physician assistant
  3. Occupational therapist or Physical therapist
  4. Medical Assistant or Medical Technician
  5. Technician in Xray, Ultrasound, hemodialysis, chemotherapy
  6. Respiratory therapist
Or any number of careers in the medical field.

Getting jobs after graduation is related to doing jobs before graduation. So make sure that you do work or do internships.
