Questions about Dorms and Food

Hey current students! Would you please give us the lowdown on how the dorms and the food have been this past year?

My daughter needs a ton of sleep and also has some food allergies, so food is actually quite a big part of her decision making process for college. She’s allergic to chemical preservatives found in deli meats, cheeses, etc. so she has to stick to a basically Paleo type diet. Is the food good and are there healthy options? Is there a Whole Foods Market nearby? Also do any of the dorms have kitchens where students can prepare their own food?

Which dorm would be best for a student who needs a lot of sleep? Or are all of them fairly noisy? I read somewhere on CC that one is definitely for partiers (can’t remember which one) but what about the others? Any suggestions? We visited a few liberal arts colleges and found that those campuses were very quiet during the evenings. Is that how it is at LMU as well?

Also, any knowledge/advice about the Graphic Arts major (Studio Arts) would be very helpful!

Thanks so much.

I’ll be a sophomore this year and I can speak to the food at the lair. I don’t have any dietary restrictions but there are always vegan options available (pretty good) and two salad bars. The food isn’t all that great once you’ve been eating it everyday for months but it’s not inedible. The options are Mexican, stir fry, pasta, vegan, and American. There’s also salad, soup, and bagels. There is a Whole Foods nearby in Playa Vista and lots of other restaurants near campus. Some dorms have kitchens but I don’t believe they have stoves/ovens.

I lived in Sullivan and was great for someone like me who is quiet and likes to do her own thing. It was NOT a party dorm and was right across the road from the lair.

I’m not Studio Arts but I am in the College of Communications and Fine Arts and I believe they take very good care of us. Strong advisors (especially compared to the business school). It’s the largest college on campus and filled with lots of ambitious and smart people.
