So I'm in the class right now and I'm struggling quite a lot.. lectures aren't that great and when I try to do the homework, I'm clueless. Apparently Math 32A and B are prereq's for the course but I'm only taking 32A this quarter (don't know how I was able to enroll). For those who have taken EE1 do you recommend I drop the class and try again in spring (when I'll have 32A/B completed) or should I be able to do without it? Physics has never really been one of my strengths and I didn't do quite well in 1A/1B either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

the course didn't get any easier after the midterm..

when i took it with joshi, we had a terrible TA as well. however, if you have a good one, going to office hours should help a lot. don't expect joshi to help a lot though...didn't like him at all.

i don't think math32b would help you that much - it's really physics based.

I imagine that I wouldn't have known how to do the Maxwell equation problems in EE 1 without having taken Math 32B first and learning the surface/volume integrals.

Yeah... I agree with flopsy... you kinda need to know volume and surface integrals to FULLY understand and work with Maxwell's Equations. I thought 32B was kinda needed for the class. I took 32B the quarter before I took EE 1, and I remember being able to connect a lot of the 32B material with EE 1. If you think you kinda understand the different coordinate systems and volume/surface/line integrals well, then maybe you can get by. I guess you could maybe get by without understanding Stoke's thm and the divergence thm =x... but I didn't have Joshi (I had Ozcan, who was pretty easy).

Hmm, so I decided to gamble on the midterm to see if I could boost my grade up and it looks like I didn't do too well (grades aren't out yet but I'm pretty sure I bombed it; finished 50%-ish T_T). I'm kinda lost on what to do now, I could either drop it and get a transcript notation or keep going (not too confident in improving though).. beginning to feel like I don't belong in engineering. (Sorry if I sound like I'm a big complainer, just confused on what to do in this situation).

@sooskay: i went through the same phase when i was in ee1. i was pledging at the time and after my midterm, i dropped to the 60th percentile (41/75) and i was extremely disappointed in myself.

my confidence dropped but my pledge bros were extremely supportive of me and i decided it was best to depledge. i then tried to work as hard as i could and ended up with an A- after the final (went up to ~25th percentile).

so try not to drop the class and try to find out what you can do to do/study better for the course. engineering is great because it's challenging and you'll learn a lot about yourself in these 4 years of school
